Looking Ahead... October 5 - 16

Important Dates:
  • October 16 - Michigan/Michigan State Day
  • October 27 - Turkey Trot
  • October 29 - Halloween Party
  • October 30 - No School
Reading:
We are on a role practicing things that good readers do! We are working hard right now on writing down our thinking while we read. Students record on post-it notes what "they think, wonder and notice" about their reading. They are collecting their notes in a reading notebook. Scholastic reading is also up and running as well. Students are to read "good fit books" in their reading level! They have received their first SRC goal and are on their way to achieving it.

Writing:
We have been working hard on our first personal narratives. Students will be wrapping those up by the end of this week and we will be celebrating their hard work. The next genre students will be writing in an opinion piece.

Grammar/Spelling:
We have been working hard on grammar the last couple weeks. Right now we are focusing on labeling nouns, adjectives, and verbs in a sentence.
Watch for a new spelling list to go home every Monday. Tests will always be on Fridays. Week 3 words are coming home today.

Math:
We have been busy learning our multiplication facts. So far we have learned our 5's, 2's, 10's, 9's, 3's and 4's. We spend a lot of time in school practicing our facts but this unit moves rather quickly so it will be important to practice facts at home too.

Social Studies:
We are rolling right along with our Michigan geography unit. Students just learned about important landforms and bodies of water in Michigan.

Other News:
  • Please check your child's folder from Friday for a note about the Halloween party. $3 is being collected from all students to help cover the cost of all three classroom parties this year.
