Looking Ahead... November 30 - December 18

Important Dates:
  • December 3&4 - Santa Secret Shop
  • December 10 - Christmas Program 7pm
  • December 17 - Christmas Party (Wear red/green)
  • December 21 - January 1 Christmas Break
Reading:
The students have LOVED the series unit. I have been so impressed by the conversations they are having with their partner. We will continue to develop the skills to have these meaningful conversations about our books. Also, there are two weeks left in the current Scholastic Reading Counts. Many of the students have reached their goal, or are really close. I would love to see them all reach their goal in the next two weeks.

Writing:
We will spend these next three weeks before Christmas break writing a personal essay. Students will commit to a topic, and support their opinion with stories from their own lives. I will be modeling this along the way. We will be done with our essays by Christmas break.

Grammar/Spelling:
We are continuing to roll along with grammar.
Spelling list 9 is coming home today.

Math:
We begin Unit 3 today. This unit involves measurement, time and graphs. Our goal is to get through measurement and time before break, and visit graphs after break. There will not be a test until the entire unit is complete. Please continue to practice math facts with your child. I will be switching all students over to multiplication in XtraMath next week.

Science:
This week we start out unit on Sound. This is a short unit, but full of hands on activities to explore sound. We will wrap this unit up in about 2 weeks.

Other News:
  • Ornament Sale - Our Bauer Leadership Team will be selling ornaments December 1-11. This year the money raised will be donated to the Caring Kids program at the Helen Devos Children's Hospital. It costs just $2.00 to purchase an ornament or you can buy 3 for $5.00. Each ornament will have a sticker attached to it which can be used as a free homework pass for your child. They may attach the sticker to ONE sheet of homework. The ornaments will be delivered December 17.
