Reading:
The students have been working really hard on their SRC goals. The deadline is this Friday. I will not be giving any other homework this week in hopes that lots of reading will take place. We have many students already at their goal, and so many that are really close! Keep reading each night!!
Writing (and Social Studies):
Monday we will begin our final writing unit of the year - essays. We will be tying this into one of our social studies units as well. In social studies we will be learning about Michigan issues. We will read and become informed on wind farms and then write an essay taking a stand on what we believe. Should wind farms be built in the Great Lakes?
Math:
We will also begin to tackle our last math unit this week. It's such a weird feeling to think we are nearing the end of school. Time is flying! This math unit focuses on 1 and 2 step word problems. We have already done some of this already so this unit won't be as intense as the last couple we have just completed.
Science:
Lots of new units starting this week. We are also starting a new science unit on rocks and minerals. This week we will look at the many materials we get from the Earth and what they are used for. We will also be taking a closer look at soil and sand.
Other News:
- Students are doing an AMAZING job on M-STEP so far. I am incredibly proud of them for all their hard work! It will not go unnoticed!
- A bright orange field trip note went home on Friday. Please have those returned to school by May 10. We will be visiting Frederik Meijer Gardens on May 27. If you plan to join us, please don't forget to fill out the volunteer background check. A link was sent to your email! This is such a great field trip! We look forward to a great day!
