Reading:
Scholastic Reading Counts is off to a great start. Your child is well on the way to his/her reading goal. Student are encouraged to read books at there reading level and take quizzes on each one. Every book they check out at the library has a quiz that can be taken. So do the majority of our classroom books as well. Please remind your child to read 20-30 minutes each night and fill out their reading logs. By the end of this week, students should be around 25% of their goal to stay on track. This session of SRC ends the beginning of December. You will see a report come home every other week. (I will send one this week since we are at a percentage milestone.)

Writing:
We are wrapping up our first personal narratives this week. Today we will focus on editing our stories, and then publishing them later this week.

Math:
We are cruising right along with learning multiplication facts. We are finishing the first unit in our books and will assess toward the end of the week next week. During unit 2 we will finish up multiplication facts. (6's, 7's, & 8's) Once those are done XtraMath will be switched to multiplication as well. Please continue to practice facts with your child at home.

Social Studies:
We continue to study the geography of Michigan. This week we will discuss how and why people, goods and ideas move through Michigan. We will also look at the surrounding regions in the area. We are nearing the end of this unit as well and will most likely be assessing next week. Stay tuned for a specific date.

Other News:
  • Pizza with Parents - This Friday is our first pizza lunch. Please remember to send in your money by WEDNESDAY so we can get the pizza ordered ahead of time. Please meet us in our classroom at 11:45. Students will have time to eat with you and then you are welcome to join them for recess afterwards. Looking forward to a fun time together. Just as a reminder - it gets really crowded in here. 28 students, plus their guests, all in one little room. I'm sure you can picture it. ;) Please limit the number of guests to 1, maybe 2 people. There will be more opportunities for others to join us in the future.
