Looking Ahead

Important Dates:
  • March 20-24 Bandaid Drive (see previous post)
  • March 21-24 BOGO Book Fair (during school hours)
  • March 30 Read n Feed "at the beach" Day. (more details soon)
  • March 31 - April 9 Spring Break
Reading:
The next couple weeks we will be reading difference fables, and focusing on authors message. Encourage your child to read each night, and take quizzes at school. They should be at 75% of their SRC goal by spring break.

Writing:
Students are currently working on a research project. They each chose an animal that they wanted to learn more about. We talked about the many non-fiction text features and they are learning strategies for good note-taking. After spring break, students will take the notes they have on their animal and write a paper. To celebrate their hard work, they will turn their research paper into a google slideshow, and present it to the class.

Math:
We recently started a new unit that focuses on place values, rounding, multi-digit addition and subtraction, and story problems. Ask your child about the fun way we are teaching/learning math. They spend their time in three rotations: Teacher Time, Practice, and Explore. We started this last unit and it's going great. It's a perfect opportunity to differentiate instruction and for me to work with smaller groups of students at a time. We are all loving it.

Science:
We are wrapping up our animal unit this week. We will review characteristics of vertebrates, and animal adaptations in class. Review sheets will come home and we will assess on Wednesday.

Other News:
  • Don't forget to cut off and send in Box Tops! It helps raise money for the school!
  • A huge thank you to those of you who have taken time out of your day to be our mystery reader. There are still two weeks left to sign up if you're interested.
