Reading:
This session of SRC ends this Friday! All students are currently working on comprehension of text. Super switch groups will continue with the students in book clubs or small groups for targeted reading instruction. At-home reading should continue even though reading counts will have ended. To be at grade level, students need to leave third grade reading at a level P. By November of their fourth grade year they need to be at a level Q. It will be extremely important for your child to read all summer to maintain the skills they have and remain at their current level.
Writing:
We are continuing to work on our animal presentations through google slides. Our final writing project of the year will be writing a persuasive essay about a social studies topic.
Math:
We are continuing to work on area and perimeter. This will continue for a couple more weeks. This concept is tricky and we are taking it nice and slow. Please remember to keep practicing math facts at home. Third graders are expected to know their basic multiplication facts quickly by the end of the year.
Science:
In preparation of our field trip, our focus this week will be spent learning about simple machines. The field trip is intended to provide much of the instruction, so it will be important for the kids to take it seriously and participate.
Other News:
- Don't forget to cut off and send in Box Tops! It helps raise money for the school!
- Meijer Garden - All students will need to bring a sack lunch with them to day of the field trip. We will be eating lunch halfway through our day. It is incredibly helpful if your child's lunch is packed in things that can just be tossed afterwards. This way we don't need to worry about carrying lunch boxes with us around the gardens.
- Please make note of the M-Step dates listed above, and refrain from pulling your child out of school on those days. It is important for them to take the test with the rest of the class. Any test that is missed will need to be made up, resulting in your child missing additional classwork.
