Looking Ahead...

Important Dates:

• January 8 - School resumes 
• January 12 - Early Release. School dismisses at 12:15

Reading:

Please remind your child to read each night for 20-30 minutes. Don't forget to record their minutes on their orange learning target sheet. I collect those each Monday and document the minutes read for the week. SRC is still going really well. I will send one more updated report before break. Watch for that next week. 

Writing:

Their persuasive essays are finished and they did a great job. If you haven't heard from them already, to celebrate this genre, students recorded themselves reading their essays and we have been enjoying listening to each others and leaving compliments about what we enjoyed. Watch your email in the next day or two for a link to listen to your child's essay. 

Math:

We just assessed our second unit of math which was a continuation of multiplication and division. Overall students did quite well. We still need some practice on two step word problems, but have plenty of time to keep practicing. We are now changing things up a bit and will be learning about measurement, time and graphing. We will get through measurement before break and then upon our return, dive into telling time and creating graphs.  

Social Studies:

We are nearing the end of our Michigan history unit. We have had some awesome conversations, and the students really seem to be enjoying learning all about the people who used to live here. The test will be the beginning of next week. Watch for a review sheet to come home. 

Other News:

• Please make sure your child has appropriate winter gear for outdoor recess. (Hats, gloves, snow pants, coats, boots, etc.) Also... please be sure your child either has a pair of shoes at school, or brings a pair each day. Wet boots and our tile floor don't mix well. It gets really slippery. 
• Christmas Party: Our party is scheduled for Thursday, December 22 at 2:30 pm. Thank you to everyone who signed up to send in supplies. We appreciate the generosity. 
• The Secret Santa Shop is this week Thursday and Friday. Our class is signed up to shop Thursday afternoon. If your child plans to shop, please make sure they have their money and shopping list with them. Feel free to send it in anytime. 
• We are in need of Kleenex. We are down to two boxes. If you have an extra box laying around, or pick up an extra at the store, we will gladly take it off your hands. Thank you in advance.
• It is getting really close to baby time. My goal is to make it until Christmas break, but we shall see. :) Miss Moore has been in to visit us a couple times, and has a couple more visits planned before break. She is excited and ready to take over whenever we may need her. A letter went home a couple weeks ago introducing her. Hopefully you had a chance to look that over. Her contact information was on there, but in case you missed it, her email address is hmoore1@hpseagles.net 
  If you need to contact me at all while I am away, feel free to send me an email. I will be checking that quite regularly. I am looking forward to time home, adjusting to a family of four, but will miss your sweet kiddos dearly.
