Please remind your child to read each night for 20-30 minutes, and record their minutes on their orange learning target sheet. Most students have finished their series reading book club, but some are still finishing theirs up. Students have explored and journaled about the characteristics of series books. We should be finishing up our class read aloud series book, Sophie the Hero, this week. We will be moving on to our next unit soon!
Writing:
Students have finished drafting their realistic fiction stories. This week we have been working hard at editing them independently and with our writing partners to make them the best version they can be! Next week we will begin typing our stories.
Math:
After our unit 3 test we have moved to unit 6! So far, we have explored triangles and a variety of polygons. Students have composed and decomposed polygons, learned about acute and obtuse angles, and explored the terms concave and convex. We will continue to work on polygons and start exploring area and perimeter soon.
Social Studies:
This week we took a short quiz on early manufacturing in Michigan. Now we have started to discuss growth in Michigan due to the automobile industry. So far, students have examined photographs and explained how cars have evolved. We will continue discussing Henry Ford and the assembly line. Students are always so excited to discuss how things have changed. This makes for a fun discussion :)
