Reading:
Please keep encouraging your child to read each night and fill out their reading log. Also, students should be taking SRC quizzes after each book they read. This Friday they should be around 50% of their goal. An updated progress sheet will be given to you at conferences.
Writing:
This week we will begin writing a personal essay. We will look at sample essays, and talk about how an essay is written based on a big idea. We will create a list together of possible big ideas that the students can write about. They will then choose one to develop into their own personal essay.
Math:
Last week we finished our first unit of math. You will be getting your child's math test back next week during parent teacher conferences. This week we will begin unit 2, which continues with multiplication and division. We will learn the facts for 6's, 7's and 8's. Please keep practicing multiplication facts with your child at home.
Social Studies:
This week we will kick off our Michigan History unit. You should have seen your child's geography test come home last week. I was thrilled with how well they did. It is so fun to learn about this awesome state we live in. The kids seem to really be enjoying it. We start off our history unit learning about the Earliest People, Hopewell, and the Three Fires.
Other News:
- Parent-Teacher conferences are next week. A bright orange slip came home with your conference day/time. Please be sure to return those to school so I know I you can make it. Looking forward to meeting with all of you!
- Don't forget to cut off and send in Box Tops! It helps raise money for the school!
- PE CARES food drive has started! The class that brings in the most items will win a T-shirt and bowling party! How fun! To ensure a variety of items are sent in, it is suggested for 3rd graders to send in canned fruits and veggies. Anything will be accepted though, so please send it what you can. Thank you!
