Reading:
Our biggest goal is to comprehend what we read. We are constantly working on strategies to help with this. Students are all part of a reading group based on their personal reading needs. These groups will be rearranged after Thanksgiving break to address their needs. Please keep encouraging your child to read each night and fill out their reading log. Also, students should be taking SRC quizzes after each book they read. By Thanksgiving they should be around 75% of their goal. An updated progress sheet will be sent home next week.
Writing:
We will be finishing up our personal essays by Thanksgiving break. This week students will be writing their mini evidence stories, as well as conclusions. We will revise, edit and be ready to celebrate their hard work come Monday.
Math:
The students have officially been introduced to all the fact families through 10. The rest of this unit will focus on multiplication and division in word problems. Please begin and/or continue to practice math facts with your child at home. It is intended that they have these memorized by the end of the year. There are many ways they can practice: XtraMath, Flash cards, oral practice. Anything is great. I do not require one specific way of practicing, as long as it's becoming a routine at home.
Social Studies:
We have loved learning about the History of Michigan. So far we have studied the Earliest People, Hopewell, and the Three Fires. Next we were learn about the French.
Other News:
- Don't forget to cut off and send in Box Tops! It helps raise money for the school!
- PE CARES food drive is well on it's way! Our class is doing awesome! The class that brings in the most items will win a T-shirt and bowling party! How fun! To ensure a variety of items are sent in, it is suggested for 3rd graders to send in canned fruits and veggies. Anything will be accepted though, so please send it what you can. Thank you!
