Reading:
For the  month of February we are focusing our study on biographies. We just finished reading The BFG, so as a class we will be reading about Roald Dahl, the author. Students will also be encouraged to read biographies in class, and check them out in library as well. I am so excited to have conversations with them about what they learn about the great people they choose to read about.

Writing:
We are currently writing realistic fiction stories. Students have decided on an idea for their story, and are busy planning it out. We will begin writing this week. These are my favorite stories to read. I love seeing their imagination come to life as they write.

Math:
This week Thursday we will be assessing measurement, clocks, and graphs. Next we will dive into the world of fractions. This is a unit that tends to be a bit more challenging. It's a shorter unit, but we will be taking our time getting through it. It will take us through the end of February/beginning of March.

Science:
This week we move from light to sound. We will take a sound walk and discuss all the different sounds we heard. We will distinguish the difference between natural and man-made sound. Later this week we will also be talking about pitch and volume, as well as things that muffle sound.

Other News:
  • Don't forget to cut off and send in Box Tops! It helps raise money for the school!
