Looking Ahead...

I cannot believe it is March already! The warmer temperatures have been keeping big smiles on student faces all week. It was so nice to see many of you at the kickoff for reading month Wednesday night. Please keep in mind that there is a lot going on in the month of March, so please make sure you are checking folders regularly.

Important Dates:

  • March 9 - Early Release Day
  • March 13 - Jet's Pizza Night
  • March 16 - Spirit Day (mix and match or wear green day)
  • March 16 - Book Fair Begins
  • March 23 - Book Fair Ends/Wear Eagle Pride Day
  • March 30 - Spring Break Beings
  • April 9 - School Resumes

Conferences:
Conference notes will be sent home this Friday, March 2. Please sign and return the sheet to school. Conferences will be held March 14 and 20. The times and days remain the same from the fall. If for some reason this doesn't work for you, please let me know so we can work something out. However, I am hoping to stick to the original times.

Reading:
The March is reading month calendar was sent home last week. There are a lot of important dates and fun activities for your students to follow. If you need a new calendar email me and I will send it to you. Keep recording reading minutes on your learning target sheet!

We are currently reading The BFG. Our next unit is biographies, which we will start next week. First, we are going to read a biography on Roald Dahl as a follow up to The BFG.

Writing:
Students have been working hard making their realistic fiction stories the best they can be, and this week we are illustrating them. We will be giving a post assessment Monday, so students should be brainstorming ideas over the weekend about what they are going to write about for that. I will give them more details Friday. Then we will start a new unit!

Math:
We are continuing on unit 6, and students have started to explore area and perimeter this week. Keep reviewing quadrilaterals if you can. We've been trying to make more connections to things that we see regularly that are quadrilaterals :)

Social Studies:
Last week we focused on the assembly line. Students created a cart independently and then with a group to see how much more efficient it is. This week we discussed push and pull factors of Michigan. Next week we are moving on to how these factors still influence Michigan.

Other News:
  • Running club practice starts this upcoming Monday, March 5.
  • Parent teacher conferences will be held March 14th and 20th.
  • We will be previewing the book fair as a class March 20, and we will be shopping March 22.
