Reading:
March has been a busy month celebrating reading month! We have enjoyed meeting with reading buddies with a 1st grade class, D.E.A.R. time, dressing up, crossword and word search puzzles, joke day, and we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. Keep looking at your March reading calendar at home to prepare your student for events. We just finished our most read aloud, The BFG, this week. We have moved into studying biographies.
Keep recording reading minutes on your learning target sheet!

Writing:
We have started a unit on essays. Students have focused on identifying the BIG IDEA, what the author really wants you to take away from reading, in books and essays so far. We are going to choose a BIG IDEA topic and find evidence from our lives to support the idea before we begin writing our essays.
Math:
We have been focused on area for the last week. This week we started to decompose figures into rectangles to find the area of the whole figure. This is a tricky concept for some students, but we will continue to work on it! We are going to focus on perimeter next.
Social Studies:
We are studying Michigan's current economy. So far, we have explored agriculture, services, and manufacturing. We also discussed how imports and exports affect Michigan's economy. For the rest of the week we are going to discuss how tourism and development impact our economy.
Other News:
- I look forward to seeing you for conferences!
- If you are able to donate more boxes of tissue we would greatly appreciate it! Students' allergies from weather changes have dwindled our stock.
- Mrs. Scholma is planning on returning March 29. The students are eager to have her back, but I am going to miss them!
