Important Dates:
- October 28 - Turkey Trot
- October 30 - Halloween Parties
- October 31 - NO SCHOOL (records day)
- November 5&6 - Conferences
Reading:
We continue to focus on the characters in our books as we read. The students will meet with their reading partners this week to share about their characters. Scholastic Reading Counts is going really well. You will find a progress report in your child's mail, every other Friday. By next Friday, November 7, your child should be around 50% of his/her goal. You will get another update at conferences.
Writing:
We are on our way to writing our next personal narrative. They have brainstormed some memorable experiences and will now choose one that they want to turn into a story. This week students will map out their stories on a story mountain and begin drafting.
Spelling:
With this being a short week, and a Halloween party thrown in the mix, there will NOT be a spelling list this week. Spelling will resume next Monday.
Math:
We are well on our way into the second unit of math. Your child has now been introduced to all of the multiplication facts. At this point in the school year, it is still a process of learning and memorizing the facts. It is not expected until the end of third grade for them all to be memorized. Please continue to practice multiplication facts each night at home. Thanks for all your help.
Social Studies/Science:
We continue our units on Michigan geography and plants.
*Our class Halloween party will be on October 30, from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Students will have time prior to this to get into their costumes. If you are planning on joining us, and bringing your son/daughters costume with you, please plan on being here by 12:45pm. DON'T FORGET TO SEND IN A ROLL OF TOILET PAPER BY TOMORROW. THANK YOU!
