Looking Ahead

Important Dates

  • November 26-28: Thanksgiving Break
  • December 5 and 8: Santa's Secret Shop
  • December 9: Bauer Christmas Program (K-5)
Reading
We are diving into our Series unit this week. We are continuing with the Clementine books and started the second book in this series for our read aloud today. The students seem to really enjoy these books and I often find them giggling with all of Clementine's silly antics and things she says.

    Writing
We continue with our personal narratives this week. Students are continuing to draft and make changes to their narratives adding sensory details, descriptive words and actions, and making sure they are painting a picture in their readers mind. Later this week we will talk about writing an effective ending and be on our way to revising, editing and finalizing our narratives.

      Spelling
List 9 is coming home with students today. This week's words focus on words with long vowel sounds and adding -ed to verbs. They also have a bonus word this week- Zwiers :)

        Math
We are beginning Unit 3 in math this week. Today students took a pre-test and we will begin with lesson one tomorrow. Unit 3 focuses on measurement, time and graphs. Students will be drawing picture graphs and bar graphs, using number lines, learning about liquid volume and mass and making plot lines to represent data. They will also be able to write time to the nearest minute and solve word problems involving time intervals.

          Science
We have been talking about Plant Adaptations and will wrap this unit up this week. Tuesday and Wednesday students will be working in groups to present information to the class on adaptations plants make in different climates. There will be a plant adaptations test on Monday (11/24).
