Reading:
Students are doing a great job using strategies to help them read. Please continue to have your child read at home each night for 20-30 minutes. SRC quizzes are also in full force. Students are encouraged to take a quiz on every book they read. Library books, classroom books, and even some books you have at home, all have quizzes. I will print an updated report on your child's quizzes every other week.
Writing:
We have spent a great deal of time preparing to write a personal narrative. Students have many great stories started, and this week will choose the one they would like to publish into a story. They will plan their stories out across a story mountain and then begin writing them later this week.
Math:
We continue to introduce and learn new multiplication facts each week. This is a big portion of our beginning of the year math unit. You will continue to see the bright orange practice sheets come home each time we learn a new fact. In between learning new facts, we use the facts we already know to answer multiplication and division word problems. Please keep practicing facts with your child at home. This task should take less than 5 minutes each night.
Social Studies:
The students are loving learning about Michigan. We spent a decent amount of time learning about the important landforms and bodies of water found in Michigan. This week we will learn about the climate, vegetation, and some human characteristics such as bridges and lighthouses. I love all the stories that this unit brings out of the students. So many awesome memories that they love sharing about our state.
