Reading:

Our current read aloud is Because of Winn Dixie. We are reading this book together as we make our way through the character unit. We are spending a lot of time focusing on the characters in our book. We pay close attention to how they act, how they feel, etc. This helps us better understand the book, when we can understand what the character is going through. We talk about it together, during read aloud, and then the kids practice these strategies in their own books. 

Writing:

Students have been working really hard on drafting their personal narratives. We will finish those up this week and then spend some time revising them to make them even better. 

Math:

We continue to introduce and learn new multiplication facts each week. So far we have learned the 5, 2, 10, 9, 3 and 4 facts. Please keep practicing facts with your child at home. This task should take less than 5 minutes each night. We are spending a great deal of time answering word problems. It helps when the students know their facts. 

Social Studies:

We are still learning all about our incredible state. This week we will talk about Human/Environmental Interaction, as well as movement within our state. After that all we have left are regions. Our Michigan geography test will probably fall toward the end of next week. Watch for a review sheet to come home a few days prior.

Other News:

• Book Orders - Book order came home last Thursday. Please have all orders submitted by this Thursday, October 19. This month only, with a class order totaling over $50, Scholastic will send us 10 free books for our classroom. 
• Christmas Program- Save the Date! This year's Christmas program will be Tuesday, November 28. 
• Box Tops - Keep sending in those box tops! Our class is leading the pack this month!
