Important Dates:
- January 30 - February 2 - NO SCHOOL (Mid Winter Break)
- February 14 - Valentine's Day Wear Red/Pink
Reading:
Good reading strategies are being practiced daily. It is important to use strategies while reading, to help comprehend the story. The students are noticing this as they are taking their quizzes. Watch for reports to come home on Fridays to show where your child is at in SRC.
Writing:
The students are doing a fabulous job writing their essays. I have loved reading their small stories that support their {big idea} opinions. We will wrap these up next week. They will then revise, edit and share their stories with the class.
Spelling:
The next two weeks we will not do the normal spelling routine due to the shortened weeks. Your child is bringing a list of number words home today. Please have them study the spelling of these words. The test will be next Friday. Our math unit requires the kids to write numbers frequently, so it is helpful if they know the correct spelling.
Math:
Unit 4 is in full force. This unit focused on place values, multi-digit addition and subtraction, and story problems. Ask your child about the fun way we are teaching math this time around. They spend their time in three rotations: Teacher Time, Independent Work, and Math Centers. So far it's going great. It's a perfect opportunity to differentiate instruction and for me to work with smaller groups of students at a time. We are all loving it.
Science:
We are beginning a new unit on sound this week. This unit will last a couple weeks. I will update as to when the assessment is, when times gets closer.
*Keep sending in Box Tops. We are currently in the lead to win a pizza party. The challenge ends toward the end of February.
*Valentine's Day Party will be on February 14 from 1:00-2:00. We would love to have your join us if it works with your schedule.
