Important Dates:
- September 25 ~ Lockdown and Evacuation drill in pm
- September 26 ~ Walk-a-thon (wear maize and blue)
Reading:
This week in reading we will be spending time practicing different strategies that help us comprehend the stories we read, and be able to retell them to a friend. It is important they stay focused on the story, and create imagines in their head while they read.
Writing:
The students have chosen a topic to write about and have planned out their stories on a timeline. We will spend the next two weeks drafting, revising and editing our stories into great personal narratives.
Spelling:
The second list of spelling words is coming home today. I was very impressed last week at how well the kids did. This week we focus on spelling partners for both short e and long e words. Please help your child study and practice these words at home too. Just a reminder, the paper they are bringing home is not homework and does not need to come back to school. It is just another tool for practicing their words at home.
Math:
We are well on our way to learning multiplication facts. After today, your child has learned 5's, 2's, 10's and 9's. We talked about many different strategies and patterns we see that will help us memorize these facts. This week will will continue practicing those facts and adding 3's to the list by the end of the week. Please continue to help your child study their math facts at home.
We continue to study the geography of Michigan. Our focus this week is still important landforms and bodies of water found in our state.
